Food & Family Programs

Saturdays at Kiambiu Slum

In addition to providing over 450 children a year a nutritious meal, this program also offers hygiene instruction, Bible lessons, worship and recreation.  This outreach program has been highly successful in reducing hunger and reaching out to the children’s parents/guardians to experience God’s love and accept Him as their personal savior.

What’s Our Impact?

  • Over 150 children each year accept Christ.
  • More parents/guardians accept Christ through their kids’ “outreach”.
  • Hygiene instruction helps minimize the number of diseases that are contracted.
  • Children refrain from theft and drug use.

Meals at School

For many children, the meals they receive at the Roskern Educational Centre are the only meals they are fed each day.  Families have to make tremendous sacrifices to send their children to school when they are living on less than $1 a day.  The Meals at School program is vital to these children’s health and ensures that they are able to stay focused on their studies.  Education is critical to breaking the cycle of poverty that exists in the community.

What’s our Impact?

  • Reduce hunger by providing two meals at school
  • Increase students’ performance at school because they stay focused on their studies instead of on their hunger (We may want to delete this one.)
  • Decrease malnutrition and prevent anemia
  • Improve child survival
  • Increase growth and cognitive performance

Kinship Programs

So that children without parents aren’t at a disadvantage, the Kinship Program helps place these children in a family setting with adults in their extended family.

Kinship families aim to be long term solution and receive financial support, food, school fees, health care and case management from the Roskern Foundation.

The Kinship Program recruits extended family members to care for children whose parents have died or have abandoned them. Once the extended family is identified and subsequently interviewed, the family member who is determined to be the most responsible is chosen to partner with the Roskern Foundation. This arrangement creates a sense of belonging for the children.

What’s our Impact?

  • Security: The children feel secure emotionally and physically when they live under the care of a responsible extended member of the family.
  • Responsibility: The children learn to be responsible through observation and become good citizens.

Love:  The children experience the impact of love and even learn to love.  This helps them grow strong emotionally. Or This helps facilitate their emotional growth. Or This accelerates their emotional growth.
